Weather & Timing FAQs

Light and weather make or break beach photos — so we plan both for you. Here’s how timing works on the Gulf Coast, season by season.

Questions & answers

What’s the best time of day for beach photos?

The hour before sunset — golden hour — is the Gulf Coast gold standard: warm light, soft shadows, and a sky that does half the work. That slot adds a flat $100 to any package; mornings are the fee-free alternative with the quietest sand of the day.

What exactly is golden hour?

The last hour or so before sunset, when the sun sits low and its light turns warm and flattering. No harsh shadows, no squinting — it’s why photographers plan whole sessions around it.

What happens if it rains?

If conditions aren’t safe or won’t photograph well — heavy rain, lightning, high winds — we re-time or reschedule at no charge. We watch the radar with you and find the next best window together.

Is an overcast day bad for photos?

Not at all — clouds act like a giant softbox, so overcast light is flattering and helps avoid harsh shadows. We only change plans for storms or unsafe conditions.

What if we’re running late?

Tell us right away. We’ll do our best to adapt, but late arrivals may reduce shoot time if we have another session after yours.

What about summer thunderstorms?

They’re usually brief, afternoon storms — but there’s no guarantee the evening clears. We keep an eye on the radar and re-time or reschedule together if conditions aren’t safe or won’t photograph well.

What’s the best time of year?

There isn’t a bad one — that’s the Gulf Coast’s superpower. Winter brings crisp air and soft light, spring is warm and lush, summer evenings stretch past 8 p.m., and fall is the underrated quiet gem.

When are the beaches least crowded?

Mornings, weekdays, and the fall shoulder season. If an empty beach matters to you, a weekday morning session in September or October is about as private as public sand gets.

Do we need to figure out sunset times?

No — that’s our job. Tell us your dates and we’ll set the start time so the best light lands exactly during your session, whatever the season.

When should we book for the busy season?

Winter and spring are snowbird season — our busiest months — and sunset slots go first. If you’re visiting December through April, book a few weeks ahead to get the date you want.
